The birthstone for September, as well as the 5th and 45th anniversary stone, sapphires are usually blue in colour, though can also be green, orange, pink, yellow, purple or black and these are called “fancy colour” sapphires.

Second in hardness to a diamond, sapphires are very durable gems. They are mined in Burma, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Thailand, Cambodia, Australia and parts of India and Africa.
